SBU-Engineering
The Holding company “SBU-Engineering” was founded in October, 6, 2006, with the aim to improve management and production efficiency, to increase enterprise collaboration for product competitiveness, and to provide a comprehensive modernization of production. SBU-Engineering consists of the following engineering enterprises: Altaivagon (Novoaltaisk City), Altaivagon Rubtsovsk Subsidiary (Rubtsovsk City), Kuzbass Railcar Building Company - Altaivagon Subsidiary in Kemerovo (Kemerovo City), The Electroprom (Prokopyevsk City), The Podzemtransmash (Prokopyevsk City). More than 8,900 employees are working in these holding enterprises.
By production volume of freight wagons, SBU-Engineering is Russia’s second largest producer (20% of market share) and the leader beyond the Urals.
Altaivagon is the Holding’s leading enterprise. The parent enterprise provides 20 freight car models, while building and developing new rolling stock models in Novoaltajsk. Altaivagon Rubtsovsk subsidiary produces car steel casting of 60 different design types. Kuzbass Railcar Building Company produces flatcars, tank containers, gondola cars, tanks, steel platform trucks, and dump truck bodies. The SBU-Engineering Holding Company’s production capacity after the first modernization stage ensures production of 9,000 railcars and 55 thousand tons of steel railcar castings per year.
Prokopyevsk engineering enterprises “Electroprom” and “Podzemtransmash” have mastered the manufacture of components for the freight wagons within the framework of industrial cooperation.
Moreover, the Electroprom is recognized in the CIS as a producer of DC current converters, while
the Podzemtransmash produces and repairs coal mining equipment. Another Altaivagon subsidiary is ”KVC” (former “Kemerovohimmash” plant). KVC maintains its position in the chemical and petroleum equipment manufacturing industry.
Thanks to SBU investments a new metallurgical venture was established in Rubtsovsk. It implemented a fundamentally important heavy steel casting production line project for domestic freight wagons manufacturing. The automatic molding line was supplied by Savelli company (Italy), core rooms were equipped by AHB facilities (Germany), and machine, heat-treatment and shot blast casting shops were equipped with domestic machinery and machinery from Poland.
The total project cost was $ 50 million. By the end of 2009, Altaivagon collected certificates for the mass production of beams, side rails, and truck bolsters. The production capacity of 9,000 equipment sets per year put an end to the long-term export dependence.
A new investment project, that is also of $ 50 million, is planned to be completed in 2011. At the Altaivagon parent enterprise, German company Niles-Simmons Hegenscheidt GmbH will erect and run a production line for automated wheel sets. The line is considered to produce wheel sets of various design types, including those for 25 ton axle loading trucks, which are prepared for co-production release with US Amsted Rail Company, Inc.
SBU-Engineering modernization program has stipulated the purchasing of the automated light and medium-sized castings production line, provided that the Venture of a production of new dump truck bodies for BelAZ is established.
SBU-Engineering enterprises’ staff is achieving the objective goal to increase production quantity, expand products and service lines, reduce production costs and increase production quality by completing daily tasks.
